🤝 Introducer appointed representative (IAR) is a type of appointed representative within the UK's insurance distribution regulatory framework that is authorized only to introduce potential customers to an insurer or intermediary — not to advise on, arrange, or bind insurance products. Operating under the regulatory umbrella of a principal firm authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), an IAR occupies the most limited end of the appointed representative spectrum. Its role is, in essence, to generate leads and make referrals rather than to participate in the substantive insurance transaction.

While the IAR concept is specific to the UK regulatory system, analogous restricted introducer models exist in other jurisdictions where regulators distinguish between different tiers of distribution activity.
